When I lived in London, I always made sure I got off the Underground one stop before I had to. That one simple action added about 4000 steps to my day. I made an oath with myself to never use the lift at work, and I became one of the crazy people who took the stairs. According to my pedometer, that added another 2000 steps.
Another thing I did, rather than emailing my colleagues, I actually went to their desks to speak to them. It was a bit of a shock to some but kept me fit an healthy. When I moved to Tokyo, I did exactly the same thing and discovered to my surprise that the Japanese were really into “sneak exercise”.
